Journal of Energy, Engineering and Sustainable Development (JEESD)
Volume 1, Issue 1: Inaugural Issue

Theme: Energy, Engineering and Sustainable Development in Africa: Innovation, Skills
    and Policy for the Future

The inaugural issue of the Journal of Energy, Engineering and Sustainable Development
(JEESD) introduces a scholarly platform of the Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre
(KGRTC), dedicated to advancing research, professional practice and policy dialogue. This
first issue establishes the journal’s commitment to original, rigorous and practically relevant
work that addresses energy, engineering and sustainable development challenges in Zambia,
the Southern African Development Community, Africa and comparable developing contexts.
Under the theme “Energy, Engineering and Sustainable Development in Africa:
Innovation, Skills and Policy for the Future,” Volume 1, Issue 1 provides a forum for
examining how technological innovation, effective institutions and professional capabilities
can support reliable, accessible and sustainable energy systems. Its scope encompasses
renewable energy transition and energy security; power systems and infrastructure
innovation; energy economics, law, policy and regulation; climate resilience and the water-
energy nexus; digitalisation and emerging technologies; and energy-sector skills, leadership
    and institutional capacity.
The issue seeks to connect academic inquiry with the decisions and operational challenges
facing engineers, utilities, regulators, policymakers, training institutions and development
partners. It welcomes empirical and theoretical research, critical reviews, technical and policy
analysis, case studies, innovation notes and professional practice papers. Across these
contributions, the journal values methodological clarity, contextual understanding and
    recommendations grounded in evidence.
As its founding issue, this volume sets the direction for JEESD’s continuing contribution to
knowledge exchange and collaboration between academia and industry. It invites researchers
and practitioners to examine emerging challenges, document workable solutions and
strengthen the evidence available for investment, infrastructure management, workforce
development and public policy. Through this shared endeavour, JEESD aims to support
informed decisions and sustainable development across the region.
